  Wolfpack men’s soccer (6-6-4) opens ACC Tournament action on Wednesday night as it visits 23rd-ranked Pittsburgh (7-3-5) for first round action. Kickoff between the 11th-seeded Wolfpack and the sixth-seeded Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Ambrose Urbanic Field, and live video coverage will be provided by ACCNX.

The winner of Wednesday’s match will play at third-seeded Virginia on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.

A WIN WEDNESDAY WOULD

• Be the 545th win in program history (544-477-108)

• Be the 206th win in Kiefer’s head coaching career (205-128-71)

• Be Kiefer’s 44th victory at NC State (43-42-20)

• Mark NC State’s first over Pitt since Oct. 15, 2016

• Be the Wolfpack’s first over a ranked opponent since Sept. 17, 2019

• Be NC State’s 15th all-time win in the ACC Tournament (14-29-6)

• Advance the Wolfpack to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals for the first time since 2019

PACK IN THE ACC TOURNEY

• The Wolfpack is making its 34th appearance in the ACC Tournament.

• NC State won the ACC Tournament title in 1990 as the No. 4 seed that season. In total, the Pack has reached three ACC Tournament finals – 1987, 1990 and 2009.

• NC State has advanced past the first round to reach the quarterfinals twice in the Kiefer era (since 2017). NC State won its first-round games in 2018 and 2019 but has never earned a quarterfinals victory under Kiefer’s leadership.

• The Wolfpack is 6-7-0 in first-round games.

SERIES HISTORY (Pitt leads 3-4-1)

• Wednesday marks the ninth overall meeting between NC State and Pitt. This is the first year that the Wolfpack and the Panthers have faced each other twice in the same season.

• Pitt won the regular-season meeting between the squads by a 3-0 score on Sept. 16.

• Prior to that, the teams’ most recent matchup occurred in the 2019 ACC Tournament quarterfinals during which the Panthers won by a 2-1 score with a golden goal in the 94th minute. That game was the first and only ACC Tournament matchup between the Wolfpack and the Panthers.

• Each of the last three meetings between NC State and Pitt have occurred on the Panthers’ home field. The Wolfpack is 0-4-1 when playing on the road at Pitt.
