El Paso Locomotive Travels to Arizona for Phoenix Rising FC, Saturday, June 11

October 31, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)El Paso Locomotive FC News Release

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced today that midfielder Louis “Chapa” Herrera is returning for the 2023 season, pending League and Federation approval. Chapa was the second El Pasoan on the Locomotive roster when he joined the club ahead of the inaugural 2019 season.

Across his four seasons with El Paso, Chapa has appeared in 67 matches for Locomotive, accumulating 3,304 minutes on the pitch. His dynamic style of play has allowed the team to implement a possession-heavy attacking style of soccer that saw the team make back-to-back Western Conference Final appearances (2019,2020).

Chapa made seven appearances in the 2022 season and was ready to capitalize on his success from his prior three years with the Locos until sustaining an injury that would sideline him for the remainder of the season. The midfielder is ready to get back onto the pitch and kickoff off his fifth professional season with El Paso Locomotive.

Chapa piqued the interest of the Locomotive coaching staff at the Alianza de Futbol tournament in El Paso, where he was competing with a team comprised of former professional and collegiate players. After receiving an invite to the Invitational Tryout in December 2018, Chapa continued to show his prowess. Upon completion of the weekend, he was offered a contract for the inaugural 2019 season and has been with the club since.

El Paso will be announcing more roster additions in the coming weeks as they gear up for their fifth USL Championship season.
