BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State soccer’s Macey Hodge has been named to the Second Team All-SEC list, while Maggie Wadsworth earned SEC All-Freshman honors, the conference announced Sunday morning.
“We are very proud of Macey and Maggie for this deserved recognition,” head coach James Armstrong said. “Both players have had excellent seasons and bring so much to this team.”
Hodge, the junior midfielder from Douglasville, Georgia, started in every game this season, recording 16 shots as the anchor in the midfield which is the highest in one season of her three-year career in the Maroon and White. The two-year captain has already logged 1,558 minutes for MSU this season. Entering the season, Hodge was named to the SEC’s Preseason Watch List and was most recently named to the SEC Community Service Team.
Hodge’s recognition marks the 12th time in Mississippi State soccer history that at least one Bulldog has been awarded Second Team honors.
Wadsworth, the standout freshman from Flowery Branch, Georgia, has started in all 18 matches this season. The first-year Bulldog leads the team in goals (8), points (19), shots on goal (21) and game-winning goals (4). The eight goals by Wadsworth are tied for third-most in one season by a MSU freshman. Six of her eight goals have either given the Bulldogs the lead or has equalized the game for State. Earlier this season, she earned her first recognition from the league, earning back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week honors in the month of September. Wadsworth was also named College Soccer News’ National Player of the Week after her two-goal performance over then-No. 14 Arkansas that started a 3-0 start in conference play.
Wadsworth’s recognition marks the third consecutive season that a MSU player has been named to the All-Freshman Team, following Ally Perry (2021) and Maddy Anderson (2020). It’s now the fifth time in program history that a Bulldog has been named to the list.
Hodge, Wadsworth and the Bulldogs get set to make their fifth SEC Tournament appearance later on Sunday (Oct. 30) when they take on Texas A&M in a first-round matchup. The contest will kick off at 3:30 p.m. CT and will air, nationally, on SEC Network.
