COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 13 Ohio State (9-2-5, 4-2-2) concluded the 2022 Big Ten regular season with a 3-2 loss at Wisconsin (6-6-3, 3-4-1) Sunday at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison. Ohio State finished the Big Ten regular season race in third place.

Ohio State will be the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will play host to the Michigan State Friday in Columbus. The match time is to be determined.

The No. 3 seed for the Buckeyes is the best in the league tournament since the Buckeyes were the No. 1 seed in 2015.

How it Happened

Wisconsin scored first in the 19th minute on a goal by Max Keenan with assists by Tim Bielic and Michael Wampler. The Badgers entered the half with a 2-0 lead after a goal in the 35th minute by Aron Saevarrson.

Devyn Etling cut into the Wisconsin lead when he headed in his second goal of the year to make it 2-1 UW. Anthony Samways and Xavier Green assisted on the score. Green has four assists this season. Samways leads Ohio State with six.

The Badgers went up again by two goals on a score by Jack Finnegan in the 65th. But Etling scored his second of the game in the 66th to get it back to a one-goal game.

It was Etling’s third goal of the year and 16th as a Buckeye.

  • The Buckeyes finished 7-0-2 at home. Ohio State was 8-0-1 in 2010 and 4-0-1 in 1974 and 4-0-0 in both 1965 and 1967 to mark the only other undefeated home seasons in Ohio State history. The seven home wins this year are the most since a 10-2-2 record at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in 2015.
  • Ohio State entered the final weekend of the regular season at 9-1-5 overall, the most wins since the 2015 team posted a 13-7-3 overall record.
