Women’s Soccer All-Big Ten, Sportsmanship Honors Announced


ROSEMONT, Ill. – Six Penn State women’s soccer student-athletes were honored by the Big Ten Conference on Thursday afternoon.
 
Earning All-B1G honors were Ally Schlegel (First Team), Penelope Hocking (Second Team) and Mieke Schiemann (Third Team) while Kaitlyn MacBean and Amelia White secured All-Freshman Team designation. Jill Jennings rounded out the honors as the program’s Sportsmanship Award Honoree.

Ally Schlegel, Forward, R-Sr. – First Team All-B1G
Schlegel picks up her third career First Team All-Big Ten accolade. She also has a second team and All-freshman team designation to her name. The Parker, Colo. native has netted ten goals this season and finished in a three-way tie for most goals in the conference. She has also posted two assists to lead the Nittany Lions with 22 points. On Oct. 16 vs. Michigan, Schlegel scored a brace to reach 100 career points. Now with 106 points, the captain is eighth on the all-time career point leaderboard for PSU. Schlegel has started all 17 games for the Nittany Lions this season.
 
Penelope Hocking, Forward, Sr.+ – Second Team All-B1G
A fifth-year transfer from USC, Hocking earns her first All-Big Ten honor after collecting All-Pac 12 first team three times and All-Pac 12 second team in California. She has posted 16 points on five goals and six assists this season and is the active career leader in NCAA Division I in goals (59) and points (146). Hocking has played in all 17 games for the Nittany Lions and started in all but one. On Sept. 27, Hocking was named B1G Offensive Player of the Week, scoring an insurance goal in the 2-0 win over No. 4 Rutgers and a brace against Illinois.
 
Mieke Schiemann, Defender, So. –Third Team All-B1G
The Berlin, Germany native Schiemann collects her first All-B1G honor in her sophomore season. Schiemann has tallied three goals and one assist as a 17-game starter on the backline for the Nittany Lions. On Aug. 25, she posted her first career goal and career assist in the 2-0 win over No. 21 West Virginia. Her efforts saw her named B1G Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She earned the honor again on Sept. 27 after helping PSU shut out No. 4 Rutgers and Illinois. The defender has started all 17 matches for PSU.
