Premier League

Arsenal youngest and Liverpool oldest bar Fulham

Arsenal celebrate goal v Tottenham

Arsenal are still young and now very good. Liverpool are in West Ham territory with James Milner and co. Only Fulham are older.

20) Fulham (27.8)
Burnley waved and handed the newly promoted side their stock of Werther’s Originals on the way past, as Fulham replaced them as the geriatric kings of the Premier League.

18=) West Ham (27.6)
An aged goalkeeper doing a lot of the heavy lifting. 37-year-old Lucasz Fabianski has managed to keep 29-year-old whippersnapper Alphonse Areola at bay.

18=) Liverpool (27.6)
The more games James Milner starts, the more unhealthy this number becomes. The flip side is that Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott are both heavily involved too.

17) Tottenham (27.5)
33-year-old Ivan Perisic and the cruelty of time has taken Spurs from eighth last season to 17th.

15=) Brighton (27.3)
A front three of Adam Lallana, Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck is a) getting older and b) still not bloody scoring.

15=) Newcastle (27.3)
The signings of Sven Botman (22), Alexander Isak (23) have made a difference, along with the growing importance of Bruno Guimaraes (24).

14) Chelsea (27.1)
Todd Boehly’s reported plan is to build a squad of young talent at Stamford Bridge but then they start games with Thiago Silva (38), Cesar Azpilicueta (33) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (33).

13) Manchester City (27.0)
Erling Haaland is 22. Help us.

12) Crystal Palace (26.9)
They had the oldest average age in 2020/21 on a whopping 28.8, before plummeting to 27.2 last season with 26-year-old Will Hughes the oldest of seven signings. And here they are, dropping again.

11) Aston Villa (26.7)
Jacob Ramsey (21) is the baby in a team that should be, but definitely isn’t, in its prime.

8=) Leicester (26.2)
No starter over the age of 30 as they thwacked Wolves 4-0 at the weekend. They are moving in the right direction.

8=) Bournemouth (26.1)
A young team with a young manager doing far better than anyone expected.

8=) Manchester United (26.2)
A couple of young signings in Tyrell Malacia (23) and Lisandro Martinez (24) have helped a lot this season to move the average age down. It helps when Erik Ten Hag drops the aged Ronaldo.

7) Wolves (26.0)
Diego Costa is moving up that average age but him and Joao Moutinho are the only real old men of a side which frankly looks like it needs a little more experience.

5=) Everton (25.8)
£60m Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana are both 21, Nathan Patterson is 20 and Dwight McNeil is somehow only 22….
