Chelsea and Manchester United could not be separated at Stamford Bridge, with Casemiro’s stoppage time header cancelling out Jorginho’s late penalty in an enthralling encounter.

Both sides went into this fixture on the back of a positive run of form, with Chelsea looking for a sixth consecutive clean sheet while United were still buzzing from their midweek victory over Spurs.

The game had the makings of a crucial battle in the race for the Premier League‘s top four, and perhaps this was playing on the minds of both teams as they both opted for a somewhat risk-averse approach.

United had the better of the first half, dominating possession and threatening Chelsea‘s back line to the extent that Blues manager Graham Potter opted to bring on another midfielder before half-time.

The second half saw both sides cancel each other out, with virtually no further chances for either side as the game appeared to be petering out for a 0-0 draw.

But in a late twist of fate, substitute Scott McTominay made himself the centre of the story when he clumsily brought down Armando Broja while defending a corner. Jorginho stepped up to calmly slot home the penalty, appearing to have won the three points for Potter’s side.

But there was to be another twist in the tale when Casemiro climbed highest to head home from Shaw’s cross, sparking delirious celebrations among the away fans.

The result means Chelsea remain just one point clear of United in fourth place, and two points behind third-placed Spurs.

GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6/10 – A couple of slightly shaky moments but overall this was a competent display by Kepa – although United didn’t test him much.

CB: Trevoh Chalobah – 7/10 – An impressive display by Chalobah, who rewarded his manager’s faith in him with another confident performance.

CB: Thiago Silva – 7/10 – Marshalled the defence with class. Standard Thiago Silva, basically.

CB: Marc Cucurella – 6/10 – Didn’t really do anything wrong, but was an unfortunate casualty of the change of shape when his manager sought to bring on another midfielder.

RWB: Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10 – Couldn’t influence the game going forward, but a competent enough defensive display.

CM: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6/10 – Struggled to make an impact today and was substituted for Chukwuemeka late on.

CM: Jorginho – 7/10 – Grew into the game when Potter changed the formation, getting more time on the ball and…
