COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 17 Ohio State pushed hard for the full 90 minutes on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium against No. 6 Michigan State. But a late first half goal from the Spartans would prove to be the only difference in a 1-0 MSU win.

The Buckeyes are now 10-3-3 overall on the year and 5-2-2 in Big Ten play. With one match left to play in the regular season on Sunday, Ohio State is very much in the mix for a Top 4 seed and the right to host a home game in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

How it Happened

Ohio State came in as one of the hottest offensive teams in the country and looked to stay on that pace as the Buckeyes had a number of scoring chances in both halves. Kayla Fischer and Emma Sears both had dangerous strikes that sailed just over the crossbar in the second half. Despite the numerous chances, the Buckeyes weren’t able to find the equalizer to MSU’s goal late in the first half that came on a broken play.

Notes

  • With her five shots tonight, Kayla Fischer now has 293 for her career which is one behind Lara Dickenmann for second-most in program history.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Molly Pritchard had a season-high seven saves on the night

Up Next

Ohio State will host No. 13 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Wildcats lost on Thursday and remain just two points in front of the Buckeyes in the standings.
