Bears Roll Past Beavs In 2-0 Victory

CORVALLIS, ORE. – No. 25 California women’s soccer recorded a road shutout in its match against Oregon State Thursday night, its seventh shutout of the season and sixth on the road in 2022. The win lifts the team’s season record to 9-4-3 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
 
Angelina Anderson logged the 25th clean sheet of her career in the match, securing her second-place spot on Cal’s all-time career shutouts list. Anderson was previously tied at No. 2 with Maite Zabala for her 24 career shutouts.
 
On Thursday night, Cal dominated the pitch in the first half of the match against OSU, controlling 54 percent of possession in the first 40 playing minutes. OSU took their only shot of the first half in minute three, but it soared over Anderson’s net.
 
The Bears then took the lead in the 30th minute thanks to a beautiful goal by Skylar Briggs. Ayo Oke launched a corner kick to the left side of the goal, setting up a powerful touch to the bottom center of the net by Briggs. This was Briggs’ first career goal and Oke’s sixth assist of the season.
 
Shortly thereafter, Oke extended the Bears’ lead to give Cal the 2-0 advantage at the break. Oke fought off a Beaver defender and sent a rocket that bounced off the post into the top left side of the net. The goal was Oke’s first of the season.
