Klos Called Game
Junior transfer Alex Klos has had a major influence on the Bears’ early season success, scoring the game-winning goal in each of the last three straight matches. She currently leads the ACC in that category and is tied for the most in the nation. She was the lone goal scorer in Cal’s 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton, curling a ball off her left foot from outside the 18-yard box in the 80th minute.
Lema Matches Season-High Goal Total
It took all of six matches for Karlie Lema to match her season-high goal total of six, which was set her freshman year. The senior forward currently ranks third in the country in scoring and shares the honor of being the ACC’s top goal scorer. She also ranks second in the conference in goals per game (1.0), total points (13), and shots on goal (16). Lema has two braces on the season, two equalizers, one game winner, and now has 21 career goals, a mark that is four short of cracking the program’s top 10 scoring list.
Second-Half Surge
Over its first six matches Cal did the bulk of its scoring in the second half with 11 of its 14 goals coming in the final 45 minutes. The Bears currently hold an 11-4 second-half goal differential and have yet to be shut out in the period. Six goals were scored in 75th minute or later.
