West Ham and Brazil star Lucas Paqueta remains a doubt for the upcoming Qatar World Cup after club boss David Moyes revealed the attacking midfielder was suffering with a ‘serious’ injury.

Paqueta was absent from West Ham’s trip to Anfield on Wednesday evening and could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after damaging his shoulder in a recent 1-1 draw with Southampton.

The Brazilian joined the Hammers for £51million in the summer transfer window and has been one of Moyes’ bright sparks with the West Ham manager praising the ‘dynamic’ Paqueta brought to his team.

‘He has an injury, it’s quite serious at the moment. I am not sure how long it will keep him out,’ said Moyes.

‘He has been a huge player for us recently, he was coming into form and giving us a different type of dynamic in the team. We are really disappointed to lose him.

Brazil head coach Tite now faces a nervous wait to see if the 25-year-old will be fit in time for their opening World Cup match against Serbia on November 24.

Paqueta has failed to start just one of Brazil’s last 20 matches and has been a key figure in the national set up since making his debut in 2018. 

Brazil, the top ranked team in the world heading into the winter tournament, will be hoping to avoid any further scares after Tottenham striker Richarlison feared he would miss the World Cup after a recent injury scare against former side Everton.
