TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida State soccer team (10-1-2) hosts No. 2 North Carolina (12-3) on Thursday, October 20 at 8 PM on the ACC Network.
The Seminoles are coming off a 5-1 win over No. 12 Duke on Thursday, October 13. Jenna Nighswonger had a career-high tying three assists and Jody Brown had a career-high tying two goals.
FLORIDA STATE VS. NORTH CAROLINA
Thursday’s meeting between the Seminoles and the Tar Heels will be the 46th meeting between the two programs. Florida State is 11-29-5 all-time against North Carolina. FSU is 9-5-3 against the Tar Heels in their last 17 meetings.
STRONG AGAINST THE TAR HEELS
The Noles are a combined 9-5-3 in the last 17 matches of the series between Florida State and North Carolina, dating back to 2011. Florida State has won three of the last five meetings, two wins coming in 2019, including 3-2 in the ACC Championship game and 1-0 in the National Championships game. FSU once again defeated UNC in the ACC Championship game 3-2 in 2020.

The Seminoles have a combined record of 11-29-5 against the Tar Heels, the 11 victories against North Carolina is the most of any other program in the country.
FSU has 16 combined wins and draws against UNC all-time, and other than Duke (7 – five wins and two draws), Notre Dame (10 – seven wins and three draws), Virginia (9 – four wins and five draws), Santa Clara (6 – six wins) and Stanford (6 – two wins and four draws), no other school in the nation has more than 10 combined wins and draws against North Carolina.
ROQUE IS DOMINANT IN GOAL
In just over two seasons as Florida State’s starting goalkeeper, Cristina Roque is a combined 33-0-8 and has started in two National Championship games.
She recorded a career-high 10 saves in a shutout win over No. 2 Virginia, earning her ACC CO-Defensive Player of the Week Honors.
In her career she has a 0.52 goals against average, 85 saves, a .794 save percentage and 23 shutouts.
Roque is the NCAA’s active leader in Goals Against Average.
DOMINATING POSSESSION ONCE AGAIN
After possessing the ball for an average of 65.8 percent of every game last season the Noles are back at it again in 2022. FSU has averaged possessing the ball 62.3 percent of the time in 2022.
