Antonio Conte is ‘doing a fantastic job’ at Spurs despite ‘boring’ style of play

Harry Redknapp says Antonio Conte is doing ‘fantastically’ at Tottenham, even if his side don’t play as attractive football as arch-rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the season was ended by Mikel Arteta’s side on October 1.

They are currently third in the Premier League table, four points behind Arsenal in first.

Despite being two spots behind their north London rivals, Spurs are playing in the Champions League this term at the Gunners’ expense.

Conte’s side beat the three-time Premier League winners to top four in 2021-22, meaning Arsenal are playing Europa League football this season.

Despite missing out on Europe’s elite competition, Arteta was able to bring in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

Jesus has been a key player for Arsenal this term and has allowed his side to play free-flowing, attacking football.

And their style under Arteta has been praised by former Spurs manager Redknapp.

He believes they are a lot more “exciting” to watch than Conte’s side, who play a lot more defensively.

“It’s interesting this year, isn’t it?” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“Tottenham are in great form. Arsenal are in great form. You still have Manchester City, who look like the obvious favourites to win the title.

“There are a few teams this year. London teams are going well. Chelsea are going well now. It’s going to be an interesting title race.

“They aren’t exciting (to watch Spurs). You watch Arsenal, at the moment, you look at the two wingers, the way they play and how exciting they are and the movement of football. It’s fantastic.

“But Tottenham, they just keep getting results.

“Conte has got a team there where he has set them up to be hard to beat, first and foremost, but he also knows that he has goals in the team in Son and Kane. They can hit teams on the break. Soak up the pressure. You look at the midfield, they aren’t full of flair players.

“They have people who do the hard yards, get results and that’s the way they are going to do it.

“If, at the end of the year, they end up winning the title, winning a cup or being in the top four again, then who can argue? Conte is doing a fantastic job there.”

At the end of the day, it is a results business, and Conte will not be bothered by how nice his players look on the pitch as long as Spurs finish above Arsenal.
