COLUMBUS, Ohio – Anthony Samways and Parker Grinstead scored second-half goals to lead the No. 15 Buckeyes (8-1-4, 3-1-1) to a 2-1 win over visiting Northwestern (2-7-4, 0-4-2) Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Both Ohio State goals resulted from penalty kicks awarded to the Buckeyes.
Luciano Pechota drew a Northwestern foul in the 55th minute to set up the Samways go-ahead goal after Laurence Wootton’s penalty shot was saved before Samways put away the rebound for the 1-0 lead.
After the Wildcats tied the game at 1-all, Northwestern was called for a handball in the box to give Ohio State another penalty shot. Parker Grinstead took the shot for the Buckeyes and scored for the 2-1 lead.
The home portion of the 2022 Ohio State schedule concludes against Michigan State Oct. 25. Ohio State will celebrate senior night vs. the Spartans with first touch scheduled for 6 p.m.
How it Happened
Neither team was able to score in the first half and the game remained scoreless until freshman Luciano Pechota was fouled in the box on a breakaway in the 55th minute, leading to an Ohio State penalty shot.
Junior Laurence Wootton took the shot for the Buckeyes but it was saved by Northwestern keeper Christian Garner. The rebound was buried by sophomore Anthony Samways for the 1-0 Ohio State lead. It was the first career goal for Samways.

The Wildcats came back to tie the game at 1-all in the 68th minute on a goal by Jason Gajadhar.
Ohio State was awarded another penalty kick after the Wildcats were called for a handball in the 80th minute. This time Parker Grinstead took the shot and scored his third goal of the season to give the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead and the win.
Keagan McLaughlin was stellar in goal for the Buckeyes making seven saves to secure the win for the Buckeyes.
