Blue Devils Raise Over 5K for Duke Cancer Institute

DURHAM – Last week, the Duke women’s soccer team held its annual “Pink Game” with proceeds going to the Duke Cancer Institute. The Blue Devils registered a 2-1 victory against Wake Forest on the pitch and were able to raise $5,290 to help for breast cancer research.

Duke wore special pink jerseys for the match and held an online auction to sell the jerseys with all proceeds going to the Duke Cancer Institute. All 25 jerseys were auctioned off with a starting bid of $30 and the highest bid on a jersey was $520.  The average bid per jersey was $212.

During the match, the Blue Devils recognized cancer fighters, survivors, caretakers and health care providers, while also providing them with free tickets.

Over the last two years, Duke has raised $9,025 for the Duke Cancer Institute with two “Pink Games.”  The average bid per jersey went from $162 in 2021 to $212 in 2022.

Duke Cancer Institute brings together the world-class resources of Duke University, Duke Health and the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center into a single collaborative powerhouse. They organized their flagship cancer center to assemble each patient’s clinical team and treatment resources in a single building. With centers in North Durham and Wake County, they also provide Duke quality cancer care closer to home.
