Tottenham Manager Conte Was 'Scared' After Kane's Rare Penalty Miss

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says he was “scared” after Harry Kane spurned a late penalty before they navigated some late drama to edge Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 on Wednesday.

Spurs bounced back from an early Daichi Kamada goal with a double from Son Heung-Min either side of a penalty from Kane.

Faride Alidou scored in the 87th minute for Eintracht to ensure a tense final few minutes, before Spurs won a penalty.

Yet Kane, who is typically ruthless from the spot, skied his penalty over the top in the 92nd minute, keeping Eintracht in the contest.

“When we missed the penalty honestly, I was a bit scared, because I thought everything can happen,” Conte told reporters.

“We are talking about a really good performance but the final part we have to take a big lesson, everybody. Myself and the players, everybody conceded the game ended.”

On Kane’s miss, Conte added: “You know we are talking about a player that is very difficult to miss penalties.

“He’s a killer and I think that also today in the end he was really really tired because he ran a lot. He played for the team and I think he played in a fantastic way today.”

On the plus side, Conte was positive about front pair Kane and Son, who the Englishman setting up the South Korean for the opener.

“In this game we had two days to work and to prepare situations to hurt them and I think the position of Harry was really, really important,” Conte said. “Today I asked him to stay in a specific position. In my opinion he played in a really fantastic way and he made our system.

“He scored and he could have scored the second penalty. The combination was good and Richy (Richarlison) was also good with the strikers.”

Son added on BT Sport that the duo have a fine understanding.

“We just understand each other really well,” Son said.

“I know what (Kane) likes to do and he’s the same. The relationship has always been a pay-off for hard work. Many more to come I hope.”
