Erling Haaland City exit in 2024 is ‘feasible’ despite Pep Guardiola’s release clause disputes

Erling Haaland celebrates his goal

Real Madrid believe it is ‘feasible’ that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will join them in 2024, according to reports in Spain.

Haaland joined the Premier League champions from Borussia Dortmund for £51million in the summer transfer window.

It is safe to say the goalscoring demon has adapted to life in England pretty quickly.

After showing everyone that he is in fact human in the Community Shield loss to Liverpool, Haaland has been tormenting defences on a weekly basis.

Barring the Community Shield – which is a glorified friendly – the Nordic striker has only failed to score in one match for the Citizens.

That one match came against Bournemouth, which City won 4-0 anyway.

He has already scored three Premier League hat-tricks, doing so in eight games, which is a record that will never be broken.

Even though Haaland took the p*ss in Germany for Borussia Dortmund and in Austria for RB Salzburg, his record of 20 goals in 13 games for City has stunned nearly everyone.

Erling Haaland comes across as the sort of player who would want to dominate in numerous leagues before hanging up his boots.

It would not be surprising to see him play for Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona or Real Madrid before he retires. Do robots retire? I guess we will wait and see.

Although Pep Guardiola has denied the rumours, it has been reported that Haaland has a release clause in his contract that will become active in 2024.

This report has come from The Athletic, so it is probably true.

In the summer of 2024, two years into Haaland’s stay at City, he will have a release clause worth €200m (£175.5m; $194m) which will ‘decrease’ each year until his five-year contract expires.

No Premier League clubs will be able to activate the release clause, however, with it applying to all foreign clubs, including the reportedly interested Real Madrid.

This is a huge boost for Los Blancos, who see the signing of Erling Haaland as a big possibility in two years’ time.

This is according to Spanish outlet AS (via Sport Witness).

AS have previously reported that Madrid are looking to complete the signings of both Haaland and his City teammate Joao Cancelo.

And on Thursday they have claimed that the signings of Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe in 2024 is ‘feasible’ for the European champions.

Contrary to the report from The Athletic, it is said that the Norway striker’s buyout clause will be €180m (£156m).
