October 12, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)FC Cincinnati News Release

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati forward Brenner has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for September/October 2022.

The Brazilian forward’s breakout season finished in strong form as he scored nine goals and recorded two assists over his final five games of the regular season. His nine goals in September and October are tied for the most in any five-game stretch in a single season in MLS history and helped propel the Orange and Blue to a 3-1-1 mark to close the season, while clinching the club’s first Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs berth.

Brenner is the second player in club history to have been named MLS Player of the Month, joining Luciano Acosta’s inaugural monthly honor for FCC in June. FC Cincinnati is one of two clubs to have multiple MLS Player of the Month recipients this year, joining Austin FC, who saw Sebastián Driussi win the award in both April and July.

The second-year forward scored two of his three hat tricks this season over the final month of play to become the sixth different player in MLS history to score at least three hat tricks in a single season and the first since Josef Martínez in 2018. In his latest hat trick on Decision Day at D.C. United, he became the first player since Landon Donovan for the LA Galaxy in 2007 to record multiple games in a single season with at least three goals and one assist.

Brenner and teammate Brandon Vazquez are the only pair of teammates in MLS history to record at least 18 goals each in a single season, and combined with midfielder Luciano Acosta (10 goals), the Cincinnati trio scored 46 goals this season, which was more than FC Cincinnati had scored in full in any of their first three seasons.

Brenner’s latest recognition comes following Monday’s announcement when he was voted the MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire for Week 34, and was named to the MLS Team of the Week.

FC Cincinnati will compete in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in club history, with the Orange and Blue set to take on the New York Red Bulls Saturday, Oct. 15. Kick off for Round One is set for noon ET at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. The matchup will broadcast locally on Star64, nationally on Univision (Spanish audio) and on MLSSoccer.com/MLS App (English audio).

MLS Player of the Month is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
