Orlando City’s Robin Jansson undergoes season-ending foot surgery

Orlando City’s Robin Jansson has undergone season-ending foot surgery, ruling him out of the postseason should the US Open Cup champions qualify.

The center-back underwent the procedure to repair a stress fracture of the right navicular bone, setting his recovery timeline to approximately 12-15 weeks.

He’s been a crucial part of the team since joining in 2019, totaling four goals and two assists across 100 appearances. Consequently, the player signed a new two-year contract extension in early 2021, set to keep him locked in through December with options for 2023 and 2024.

The injury sent Jansson to the sidelines in August, forcing Orlando City to depend on Rodrigo Schlegel and Antonio Carlos. Though Carlos is suspended due to yellow card accumulation for Sunday’s Decision Day home match against the Columbus Crew, he should be available if the team qualifies for the postseason.

Orlando City stands in eighth on the Eastern Conference table, just on the cusp of clinching a playoff ticket. The team must win against seventh place Columbus to steal that MLS Cup playoff slot from the Crew. A draw or loss would see Orlando’s season end on Sunday.
