UNC Goes For 400th Home Win Sunday Vs. NC State

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Fifth-ranked North Carolina goes after its 400th home victory Sunday afternoon as it hosts NC State at Dorrance Field at 1 p.m.

The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.

From 1979-2016, the Tar Heels called Fetzer Field home 16 before playing their home games between Finley South and Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary in 2017 and 2018 while Dorrance Field was under construction. Dorrance Field hosted its first match on August 22, 2019.

UNC is coming off a 4-0 shutout of No. 13 Pitt on Thursday night. The Tar Heels out-shot the Panthers 22-5 with four different players scoring a goal.

NC State enters the matchup having lost three of its last four matches, including a 3-0 shutout at Notre Dame on Thursday.

The Tar Heels are currently in a four-way four fourth place in the ACC with nine points, while NC State is tied with Clemson and Wake Forest for eighth place with six points. Florida State sits atop the conference standings with 15 points followed by Duke and Pitt with 12 points each.

First Half Triples | North Carolina scored three goals in a half for the fourth time this season Thursday against Pitt. The Tar Heels scored three goals in each half of their game against Baylor as well as the first half at Missouri. UNC has scored a goal in 20 of 26 halves played this season.

Last Meeting | Without the services of an injured Avery Patterson, UNC suffered just its third loss in 52 all-time meetings with NC State last season as the Wolfpack withstood a 24-8 shooting onslaught and recorded a 1-0 win. NC State’s Jameese Joseph scored in the 26th minute for the match’s only goal.

Goals Greater Than Opponent Attempts | Carolina has scored more or as many goals as the opponent had shots on goal in five matches: UNCW 2-1, Texas 2-2, Baylor 6-6, Duke 3-1, Boston College 3-3, Pittsburgh 4-4 (UNC goals/Opp. SOG).

10 For 11 | Ten different players have scored Carolina’s 11 goals during ACC play. Senior Tori Hansen is the only player with multiple goals in conference play.

The Series | UNC leads the all-time series with NC State, 47-3-2, including a 22-1 record at home. The Tar Heels went 28-0-2 against the Wolfpack from 1985-2001 before suffering their first defeat in the series in 2002.
