Liverpool star reveals initial shock at advice from Salah

Liverpool stars Salah and Elliott

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has revealed that he was initially baffled by a piece of advice offered to him by his team-mate Mohamed Salah.

The Reds have made a slow start to the 2022/23 campaign and several of their players are underperforming.

But Elliott is one of their current stars who can hold his head high as he has been one of their better performers.

The midfielder is still only 19 but he has already played 31 times for Liverpool. He would have played more had it not been for a serious knee injury that he suffered last season.

Jurgen Klopp clearly has a lot of trust in Elliott as he was a prominent figure for them prior to his injury.

He returned to full fitness in February and he is still relied upon by Klopp. The England U21 international is blossoming into an immense talent.

Liverpool battled back from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1 at Anfield last month. Klopp stated post-match that Elliott “played an incredible game”:

“Harvey was the best player on the pitch, no shadow of a doubt tonight,” Klopp told BBC Sport.

“He played an incredible game. Imagine if we’d have all played like him, it would have been really tricky for Newcastle!

“It’s nice to see that he just picks up from where he was before the bad injury.”

Elliott has now revealed that he is being helped by Salah. The forward has given his team-mate “pointers” on how to improve:

“My breakfast is mainly bread with beans or avocado. I did eat bread in the morning, but that was white bread. Now I have changed it to brown bread which is a lot healthier,” Elliott told The Times.

“He [Salah] is not someone to say, ‘You need to be doing this, you need to be doing that.’ He is more of a guy who helps you out and gives you pointers, and you go away and think about it.

“Now it is always in my head. At the time I was thinking, ‘What is he on about? I’m just having breakfast!’

“But looking back there are so many things you can change in your diet and it is just about the small margins. That is a prime example of what he is like.”

Elliott went onto insist that it is “amazing” for him to have players like Salah to learn from:

“To have these players here and the chance to learn from them is amazing,” Elliott added.

“They all want me to do well and are giving me pointers, for example, Mo with the bread. I have taken it on board.”
