NC State Drops 2-0 Decision at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Playing its first road match in three weeks, the Wolfpack men’s soccer team (4-5-1, 1-4-0 ACC) fell 2-0 to Boston College (3-4-3, 1-3-1 ACC) on the Eagles’ home field on Friday night.

NC State out-shot Boston College 13-10 total and 9-4 in the second half but was unable to find the equalizer after the Eagles struck first in the 27th minute. Boston College then doubled its lead with an 84th-minute goal to put the final score at 2-0.

Eagle rookie Ted Cargill scored off the setup from Camilo Ponce, who faked it with his right and passed it off to his teammate for the score from the left side. Stefan Sigurdarson was responsible for Boston College’s second score, finishing off a sequence of attempts after a corner kick.

The Wolfpack’s best look also came late in the game in the form of a 79th minute shot by Conor Kelly. NC State’s leading goal scorer put a direct strike on frame off a free kick, and the ball bounced off of Boston College’s wall before Eagle goalkeeper Brennan Klein reached it with a diving save.

That marked just one of Kelly’s three strikes, as he and teammate Junior Nare led the team in shot attempts on the night. Calem Tommy and Luke Hille both registered a shot on goal apiece in the opening half, but both were handled by Klein.
