The Orange (8-4-0, 1-3-0) meet long-time foe Boston College (4-5-3, 0-4-0) in an ACC matchup on Thursday, Oct. 6, in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Syracuse seeks its first road win on the Eagles’ home turf.

 

The Syracuse-Boston College Series:

Boston College has a 10-4-2 record in the all-time series with Syracuse. The two teams first met in 1996 during Syracuse’s first season of intercollegiate play in women’s soccer.

The Eagles have an 8-0-2 mark in matchups with Syracuse played in Boston. The two teams most recently squared off in 2020 with Boston College emerging with a 3-1 victory. 

Syracuse Status:

The Orange are facing their second straight, road ACC matchup. Syracuse lost at Wake Forest on Oct. 2, 2-0, the last time out.

Freshman Shea Vanderbosch has made 10 straight starts in goal for Syracuse. She ranks second among ACC performers in save percentage (.843).

Graduate student Chelsea Domond tops the squad in goals (five) and assists (five). Domond competed at Northeastern before transferring to Syracuse prior to the 2021 campaign.

Boston College Status:

The Eagles seek their first ACC victory of the fall in Thursday’s pairing with the Orange. Boston College began the year 4-1-3, each a non-conference match, before playing four straight ACC contests.

Sophomore Wiebke Willebrandt has started 11 of 12 games in goal for Boston College. She owns a 1.77 goals-against-average and a .712 save percentage.

Senior Sam Smith has a team-best five goals and junior Emily Sapienza is another potent scorer for the Eagles with four goals and an assist.

Notable Notes:

  • The ACC has four of the top seven teams and seven of the top 25 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll. Virginia owns the number-two slot.
  • Ten different players have scored goals for Syracuse over the first 12 contests.
  • Freshman Grace Gillard leads Syracuse in minutes played with 1,052. She just a few minutes in front of graduate student Jenna Tivnan (1,041). Sophomore Emma Klein is one minute shy of the 1,000 mark.
  • Five Syracuse players have started all 12 games — Tivnan, junior Kate Murphy, sophomores Koby Commandant and Emma Klein, and Gillard.
