Shealy Receives ACC Defensive Honors

Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Russell Shealy earns Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for a second time this season. The Cartersville, Georgia native receives the accolade alongside Virginia’s junior keeper Holden Brown.

Shealy was instrumental in a 3-0 road win against Virginia Tech. The veteran shot stopper recorded two saves in the first five minutes of play. Shealy ended the night with four saves and kept his sixth clean sheet, which leads the ACC and is tied for second nationally. The Orange (8-1-1, 3-1-0 ACC) are one of the best defensive units in the nation. Syracuse’s .200 goals against average is the best mark in the country.

A historic season is in play for Shealy with just seven matches left in the 2022 regular season. He has a 0.33 GAA, which would break Alex Bono’s program record of 0.55 from the 2014 season.

Fans can catch Shealy and the Orange at the SU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against Cornell and Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. against current No. 1 ranked Wake Forest. Attendance to both matches is free of charge.
