Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas reckons Arsenal defender William Saliba has “exposed” Gabriel Magalhaes this season.
Saliba returned to the Gunners in the summer following a successful loan spell at Marseille that saw him pick up the Ligue Young Player of the Year award.
The France international picked up his first caps for Didier Deschamps side while on loan last season and now Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made him a valuable member of his starting XI.
Saliba has played every Premier League match for Arteta this term with the 22-year-old earning rave reviews from numerous former players and pundits.
But Jenas thinks Saliba has “exposed” Arsenal team-mate Gabriel with his good performances, he explained on the Vibe with Five YouTube channel: “I just feel like Saliba has elevated the level that it’s just exposed Gabriel a little bit,
“He’s [Gabriel] still very good, he’s still a very good centre-half.
“But all of a sudden you’re looking at Saliba and you’re going, ‘we need another one of you’.
“He’s [Gabriel] still doing his job, he made a big impact last year.
“I think they’re still a bit light, I look at their midfield I think they’re a little bit light. At the minute I think they are performing at their highest level, and there’s only one way to go.”
The Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby saw them stay on top of the Premier League standings with Arsenal legend Ian Wright insisting that they must now beat Liverpool on Sunday if they want to win the Premier League title.
Wright told Premier League Productions: “We are trying to chase down City but all they can do is what they are doing now.
“Liverpool is going to be a big test because you saw against Manchester United a couple of mistakes and they were beaten, that’s how small the margins are.
“Liverpool, defensively they can be got at, but can you sustain it against that team because Liverpool have got the type of players that offensively can hurt you.
“I don’t believe that Arsenal should go into that game feeling like you’re at home you should be beating this Liverpool side the form they are in at the moment, that’s how you should be approaching the game.
“What I saw of Liverpool this is the time to play them. So Arsenal, with the belief, everyone is buzzing, no injuries at the moment, this is the type of game where, at home, they’ve got to go and beat Liverpool if we’re serious about trying to…
