Blue Devils Return Home, Take on Howard


DURHAM – Fresh off their 3-2 road victory over No. 1 Wake Forest on Saturday night, the fourth-ranked Duke men’s soccer team returns to Koskinen Stadium for a non-conference matchup against Howard. The Blue Devils (7-0-2, 3-0-1) will play the Bison (2-6-0, 1-1-0) for just the third time in program history, with first touch scheduled for 7 p.m., and streaming available on ACC Network Extra.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Tuesday’s match is just the third all-time between the two schools and the second in as many years.
  • Duke defeated Howard 4-0 on Sept. 8, 2021 at Koskinen Stadium, picking up the program’s first win against the Bison.
  • The Blue Devils were led by Thorleifur Ulfarsson’s hat trick last year, with the sophomore scoring goals in the 26th, 55th, and 73rd minutes. Felix Barajas was the other Blue Devil to record a goal.
  • Shakur Mohammed had a career-high two assists in last season’s match against Howard.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Duke defeated No. 1 Wake Forest at Spry Stadium on Saturday night, picking up the 3-2 victory over the top team in the country.
  • The Blue Devils scored two goals (Shakur Mohammed, Jai Bean) in less than four minutes to open up a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute.
  • Duke added its third goal of the match when Axel Gudbjornsson headed home him second game-winning goal in the 76th minute.
  • Wake Forest was able to draw within one goal in the 80th minute, but a strong defensive effort by the backline and goalkeeper Eliot Hamill preserved Duke’s first victory over the No. 1 team in the country since 2014.

PARIANO’S DISTRIBUTION LEADS THE TEAM

  • Junior midfielder Nick Pariano set up another goal of the season against Wake Forest on Saturday night, his sixth assist of the 2022 campaign.
  • His assist against the Demon Deacons came via a free kick, with Shakur Mohammed on the receiving end of Pariano’s pass into the box.
  • Pariano is tied for first in the ACC for total assists and is also tied for third in the ACC for assists per game (.667).
