COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State enjoyed as fun of an afternoon as they have had all season, scoring three second half goals in a thrilling 3-0 victory over No. 6 Penn State on Sunday.

The Buckeyes have now won three consecutive matches and improve to 8-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Big Ten play. Penn State falls for the second time this week and is now 7-3-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in conference play.

How it Happened

Neither team was able to find the net in the opening 45 minutes and the score stay tied 0-0 with under 20 minutes to play. That’s when senior Kayla Fischer took a ball near midfield, spun and streaked down the left sideline. She turned the corner and made her way into the box before slipping a shot past the PSU keeper for her third goal of the season. That gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute.

Less than four minutes later, Sydney Jones played a ball across the goal mouth that got past the keeper and senior Maddy Lowe tapped it into the net, giving the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead.

The Buckeyes didn’t stop attacking as Emma Sears took a pass from freshman Ella Giannola and scored from just inside the box in the final minute, providing the final margin.

The Buckeyes had chances all afternoon as Sears and Fischer put pressure on the Penn State back line throughout game. OSU ended the game with eight shots on goal compared to just five for Penn State. Talani Barnett and the OSU defenders were once again brilliant, limiting PSU’s scoring chances.

The goalkeeper tandem of Kat Robinson and Molly Pritchard combined for their seventh shutout of the year and their fourth in a row,
