SEATTLE – Riding the momentum of Thursday night’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Utah, Washington returns to action at home Sunday afternoon, taking on Colorado at Husky Soccer Stadium at 1 p.m. PT.

SCOUTING COLORADO

Danny Sanchez is in his 11th season as the head coach at Colorado and his 27th season as a head coach sprawled across the NCAA Divison I, Division II and junior college levels. Sanchez has guided CU to six NCAA Tournament appearances during his time in Boulder, including a Sweet 16 showing in 2013.

 

The Buffaloes enter Sunday’s matchup with a 6-2-3 overall record, including 0-1-1 in Pac-12 play. Most recently, the Buffs earned a 1-1 draw on the road in Pullman against No. 15 Washington State.

 

Colorado is led in scoring by junior forward Shyra James, who ranks fourth in the nation with 10 goals on the season. Senior forward Civana Kuhlmann’s eight goals ranks 15th in the nation, chipping in four assists to tie for the team lead with junior forward Rachel Rosen.

Three different goalkeepers have split time for Colorado. Senior Dani Hansen has seen the bulk of the action with eight starts, posting a 1.46 GAA with a .773 save percentage on 34 stops. Sophomore Bella Grust has played in five matches with a pair of starts, earning a 0.63 GAA and a .857 save percentage on 12 stops.

SERIES HISTORY

Washington is 3-5-4 all-time against Colorado, with all 12 meetings coming since the Buffaloes joined the Pac-12 in 2011. The Huskies and Buffs have split the last three matchups, all during the 2021 calendar year.

 

LAST MEETING (9/30/21)

BOULDER, Colo. – Washington fell to Colorado 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Prentup Field. The Huskies fought through the full 90 minutes but couldn’t equalize in the second half against the Buffaloes

 

UW quickly responded when Vanessa Millsaps tied up the contest at 1-1 in the 19th minute. Ameera Hussen corralled the ball and fed Millsaps at the top of the box, who delivered a beautiful strike over the goalkeeper’s reach. Millsaps’ goal was her second of the campaign.

 

The match wouldn’t be tied for long as CU took back the lead over ten minutes later, after a UW handball in the box gave the Buffs a penalty and a 2-1 lead.
