No. 11 Buckeyes Battle to 2-all Draw with Rutgers – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 11 Ohio State (5-1-4, 1-1-1) came back from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead but a Rutgers goal with two seconds left in regulation allowed visiting Rutgers (5-1-4, 2-0-1) to draw even for the 2-all tie Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

How it Happened

Rutgers took the early lead in the 32nd minute on a breakaway goal by MD Myers with the assist coming from Jason Bouregy.

The match looked to enter the half with the Buckeyes down a goal but Chris Dowling put away the equalizer with five seconds left in the half after a scramble right in front off an Ohio State corner kick. Anthony Samways delivered the corner that bounced off Laurence Wootton to the foot of Dowling for the score.

Ohio State took a 2-1 lead on a Brayden Durbin goal in the 54th minute with the assist going to Anthony Samways.

Thomas DeVizio scored with two seconds left in the game for the Scarlet Knights to pull Rutgers even at 2-all.

Notes

  • The Rutgers first-half goal was the first score allowed by Ohio State keeper Keagan McLaughlin since the season opener, a span of 431 minutes for the senior, who had missed the previous four games with a lower body injury.
  • Ohio State is 2-1-1 in the last four matches vs. Rutgers and are 3-1-1 overall in games played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium since the series began in 2014.
  • In games played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium since it opened in 1999, Ohio State is 128-67-34.
