Women’s Soccer Take Down Gators 1-0 – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, SC – The No. 22 ranked South Carolina women’s soccer team defeated Florida on Thursday 1-0 to tally their second win in SEC conference play.

BREAKING DOWN THE ACTION

The Gamecocks and Gators battled for possession throughout most of the first half, until a shot from Florida’s Julianna Leskauskas came in the 20th minute of play. Florida put up two more shots over the next two minutes, but were met by saves from senior goalkeeper Heather Hinz.

Corinna Zullo, Catherine Barry, Shay Montgomery and Lily Render each put up chances for the Gamecocks, but the teams headed into the locker room tied at 0-0 throughout the first 45.

Barry put South Carolina on the board in the 61st minute of play after sneaking it into the far left side, putting the Gamecocks up 1-0. Barry’s goal marked the 18th of her career, officially moving her into the No. 10 spot in the record books for all-time game scorers.

Florida wasn’t able to respond, and the Gamecocks stayed on top 1-0 to take the match. South Carolina ended the night with 12 shots (eight on goal), and five corners. Hinz tallied two saves.

UP NEXT

The Gamecocks will hit the road to take on Mississippi State Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
