COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing at home for the first time in two weeks, Ohio State gave the fans and alumni reason to smile in a 2-0 victory over Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

The Buckeyes got a first half goal from sophomore Kailyn Dudukovich and a second half goal from Kine Flotre to improve to 6-2-2 and 1-1-1 on the year. Iowa slips to 3-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in Big Ten play.

How it Happened

As has been the case in most of Ohio State’s matches this season, the first half was wide open. Opportunities were there for both teams, but the Buckeyes were the only ones to convert. Right away in the fifth minute, Sydney Jones rocketed a ball into the box, and it was redirected home by Kailyn Dudukovich, staking the Buckeyes to an early 1-0 lead.

Ohio State led 1-0 until the 67th minute when Kine Flotre notched her first goal of the year. The Norwegian took a free kick and after her first ball was blocked by the wall, she boomed the rebound past the Iowa keeper to push the lead to 2-0.

The Buckeye defense, led by captain Talani Barnett, kept the shutout intact over the full 90 minutes.

Notes

  • Dudukovich notched her second goal of the year and the ninth of her career
  • Flotre finally got on the board with her first goal of the season. She has played well this season and was building towards a goal. This was the fifth goal of her career
  • The goalkeeper tandem of Kat Robinson and Molly Pritchard had to make just two saves and notched their fourth combined shutout of the year
  • The Buckeyes improve to 17-7-1 all-time against Iowa and have won the last five meetings at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium dating back to 2014
