Orange Edged By #3 Tar Heels, 1-0

Miami

Syracuse (7-3-0, 0-2-0) was edged by #3 North Carolina (8-2-0, 1-1-0), 1-0, in a closely contested match at the SU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

It was the second consecutive, 1-0 loss to a foe ranked third for the Orange. Syracuse was defeated by then #3 Duke on Sept. 16, 1-0.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED:

North Carolina’s Tori Dellaperuta pounced on a loose ball and scored with her left foot at the 31:43 mark. While the two ACC rivals each had scoring opportunities the rest of the way, it ended up as the only tally of the evening.

SYRACUSE’S LATE CHANCE

The Orange earned an excellent opportunity late in the contest on a free kick. At the 88:23 mark, freshman Gianna Savella took the shot but Tar Heel keeper Emmie Allen thwarted the effort to preserve the shutout. Allen dove to her right and deflected the attempt away with her left hand.

VANDERBOSCH POSTS EIGHT SAVES

Rookie goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch made a number of goal-saving stops and finished with eight saves in the complete-game effort. The eight saves represented the top total of her collegiate tenure, to date.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
