Turnage Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

College Park, MD — Maryland women’s soccer defender Tahirah Turnage has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Tahirah Turnage has been a key component to the Terrapins’ defense this season. Turnage played 90 minutes on the backline for Maryland in the B1G Opener on Friday night, leading the Terps to their first-ever win over Michigan by a score of 1-0. She played a big role in holding the Wolverines to just five shots on target as the Terps recorded their third shutout in the past four games. Turnage has appeared in the last four games, recording three starts.

Turnage is the first Maryland women’s soccer player to receive this honor since October 9th, 2018.

Maryland will return to action on Thursday as they close out their six-game homestand, hosting Illinois. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
