Onyi Echegini Named ACC Offensive Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State senior forward Onyi Echegini was named the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after recording three goals at Boston College on Friday, September 16. Echegini was also named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.

Echegini’s three goals against the Eagles marked her first career hat trick. She earned her first goal just 1:04 into the game and followed that up 10 minutes later with a goal at the 11-minute mark. She converted on her hat trick in the 55th minute, giving the Seminoles a 3-0 lead. FSU went on to defeat Boston College 6-0 in the ACC opener.

With a hat trick against BC, Echegini became the 16th Seminole to earn a hat trick in Program history. There have only been 20 hat tricks since the soccer program started in 1995. It is the first hat trick for a Seminole since 2017 when Deyna Castellanos recorded three goals against UNC-Greensboro.
