Collins Named Pac-12 Defender of the Week

Collins Wins Award For Second Straight Week

SAN FRANCISCO – California women’s soccer senior Sydney Collins was named Pac-12 Defender of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

This is the second straight week that Collins won the award as Collins and Angelina Anderson both won weekly awards last week as they helped the Bears standout defense.

Collins was the only Cal player to play 180 minutes this week, as she helped the Bears to their most dominant week of the season. Collins was a rock at the center of defense as she helped the Bears record back-to-back shutouts for the second consecutive week, as Cal has not allowed a goal in any of the past four games, holding a shutout streak of 374:20.

Playing with different players on the back line in both contests, Collins helped Cal suppress opportunities only allowing four shots on goal and four corner kicks in two games.

Collins has been instrumental in Cal’s eight-match unbeaten run. The Bears have not lost since the season opener and have only allowed four goals in nine games, recording five shutouts and not allowing more than one goal in any game this year.

The Bears will open Pac-12 play on Friday evening as they head to UCLA for an 8 p.m. matchup on the Pac-12 Network.
