FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II (9-10-5; 33 pts.) fell to Philadelphia Union II (11-9-4; 40 pts.), 3-1, in its season finale on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium. Forward Weverton and Homegrown midfielder Damian Rivera led the team with three shots on target, as midfielder Ryan Lima scored his fourth goal of the season in the match.


Philadelphia scored three times in the first half to secure a swift lead. New England saw a penalty kick opportunity after Weverton drew a foul in the box. The Brazilian striker took the shot in the 42nd minute, but Philadelphia’s Matt Freese made the save as New England would head into half time down by three.

Revolution II got on the scoreboard in the 79th minute as Rivera moved around three Union defenders to serve the ball to Lima, who sailed a left-footed shot into the top right corner of the net. New England saw one more scoring opportunity in the 85th minute from Rivera but would ultimately fall in the match by a score of 3-1.

Revolution II’s season comes to an end as the team closes out their 2022 MLS NEXT Pro campaign in seventh place with 33 points.
