No. 5 Duke Battles to 1-1 Tie Against North Carolina

DURHAM – A scrappy 90 minutes of play between fifth-ranked Duke (4-0-1, 1-0-1) and rival North Carolina (3-2-1, 0-1-1) ended with the teams tied at one, in front of 3,155 fans on Friday night. Amir Daley scored his first goal of the year, and seven Blue Devils played the full 90 minutes to help Duke remain undefeated in the 2022 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke’s offense was on the attack early on, logging two corners in the first six minutes of the game and putting their first shot on goal in the seventh minute.
  • The Blue Devils opened the scoring courtesy of Daley. The junior defender put home his first goal of the year, assisted by Ruben Mesalles and Nick Pariano.
  • The Tar Heels had a quick response, scoring just 29 seconds later to draw level with Duke once again.
  • Both teams sought a go-ahead goal for the remainder of the game but were turned away by strong defenses and solid goalkeeping.
  • The Blue Devils remained on the offensive for much of the contest, finishing the game with 10 total shots, including four on goal.
  • Duke’s defense proved capable once again, limiting the Tar Heels to just four total shots.
  • The rivalry made its presence known, with 29 total fouls being committed and five yellow cards shown.
