Chelsea ‘seriously reflecting’ on bid for Inter star amid contract standoff in Spurs battle

Chelsea target Milan Skriniar squeezes his nose

Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly among the ‘temptations’ for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar.

The Slovakia international was heavily linked with a move away from the Serie A club in the summer and is yet to agree to new terms at the San Siro.

With his contract expiring in the summer, he will therefore be able to talk to potential suitors in January ahead of a free transfer at the end of the season.

Inter’s current offer stands at €5.5m per year plus bonuses according to FcInterNews (via Sport Witness), who also claim the club have scheduled a meeting with Skriniar’s representatives before the end of the month to discuss his future.

But it’s unlikely those talks will result in a new deal unless they up their offer given Paris Saint-Germain put €7.5m per year plus bonuses on the table in the summer and are said still to be interested in the 27-year-old.

The report claims PSG could return for Skriniar in January, when Inter will have a decision to make as to whether to take what would likely be a nominal fee, or keep him for the rest of the season and lose him for nothing.

It’s at that point, in the summer, when Tottenham and Chelsea will look to enter the fray.

Skriniar must then ‘watch out for the temptation of England’, from Tottenham but ‘above all, Chelsea’.

The Blues are ‘seriously reflecting’ on signing Skriniar next summer when his transfer would be ‘very convenient’, given there would be no transfer fee.

But Spurs director Fabio Paratici remains a big fan of the centre-back and is always keen on deals for out-of-contract stars, a tried-and-tested method from his days with Juventus.

The report ends: ‘The game is wide open, and the ending is not so obvious’.

Asked about his future earlier this week, Skriniar said: “Everyone’s talked about it but me, and I’m still not speaking about it.

“I’m an Inter player and I will always give everything, as I’ve always done in the past. I’m focused on the team, there were rumours but I was focused on coming back as soon as possible after a fairly serious injury that I had.

“I was focused on coming back as soon as possible and helping the team.”
