How it Happened

No. 14 Akron got on the board first with a goal in the 5th minute to put the Zips up 1-0.

The Buckeyes responded quickly to tie it at 1-all when junior Owen Sullivan scored off a corner kick delivered by sophomore Anthony Samways. It was Sullivan’s first career goal in 16 Ohio State games.

Samways has four five assists, three this season. Borkovic, who earlier in the day was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, recorded his first career assist for the Buckeyes to go with three goals.

Senior Xavier Green scored unassisted in the 55th minute to brake the 1-all deadlock and give Ohio State the 2-1 lead. It was  Green’s seventh career goal in 65 career games.

Akron came right back to tie the game at 2-all in the 63rd minute on a goal by Jason Shokalook. The Zips then took the 3-2 lead in the 69th minute on a Stefan Dobrijevic goal.

Shokalook was assessed a red card in the 74th minute forcing the Zips to play the final 16 minutes with 10 men. The Buckeyes took advantage in the 83rd minute when Samways sent in a corner kick that was headed in by senior Brayden Durbin to even the match at 3-all. It was Durbin’s first career goal.
