Borkovic, McLaughlin Earn Co-Big Ten Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Keagan McLaughlin, a senior from Zanesville, Ohio, was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Marko Borkovic, a midfielder from Maidenhead, England, was tabbed co-offensive POW by the league office Tuesday after the Buckeyes (4-0-1) recorded a 2-0 win over No. 12 Butler last Friday in Columbus.

McLaughlin has posted four-consecutive shutout games and has not allowed a goal since the season opener vs. South Carolina in a 1-all draw, a span of 399 minutes.

The transfer from Notre Dame now has 14 career saves, including four as a Buckeyes.

McLaughlin has earned at least a share of the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor in each of the of the last two weeks. In addition to the league honor, he was named to the National Team of the Week by College Soccer News for the week ending Sept. 11.

Borkovic has scored three times in four games at Ohio State and leads the Big Ten in game-winning goals with two. He is second in the conference in goals scored and is third in total points with six.

Ohio State has earned a conference honor in each of the last three weeks. Junior captain Laurence Wootton was the Big Ten’s offensive honoree in the first week of the season.

The Buckeyes are back in action on the road at 7 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) against No. 9 Akron (4-1-0) at First Energy Stadium. The game will be streamed live by ESPN+.

Ohio State returns home to face Indiana Sunday (2 p.m./B1G+) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in the first league game of the year. It will be Alumni Day in Columbus.
