Arsenal eyeing new deals for crucial trio as Arteta, Edu sweat to tie them down by January

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka replaces Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal are reportedly ‘pushing hard’ to extend Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli’s contracts.

All three are out of contract in 2024, meaning they have entered the final two years of their deals.

Saliba spent last term on loan with Marseille after temporary stints with their Ligue 1 rivals, OGC Nice and Saint-Etienne.

After failing to make a single first-team appearance for the Gunners before this season, despite joining in 2019, Saliba has adapted very well to life in England.

He has formed a solid partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes in the centre of Mikel Arteta’s defence, while Benjamin White has operated as a right-back.

Renewing the France defender’s contract has become a top priority for Arsenal after his future was cast in doubt over the course of the summer transfer window.

Saka’s terms have been the focus of Edu and co. for a while now.

Liverpool and Manchester City are believed to be sniffing around as they eye the possibility of signing the young winger.

Arteta has made it clear he is confident Saka wants to extend his deal, and the player pretty much put rumours of an exit to bed last month.

When asked about Arteta’s belief, the 21-year-old said: “Yes, I share his confidence.

“I really feel the love from my team-mates, my coaches and the fans as well. So yeah, I really feel loved here.”

While Saka and Saliba have been linked with a move elsewhere, Martinelli has not.

Signed for around £6million from Ituano in 2019, the Brazilian attacker has established himself as a crucial player under Arteta.

According to 90min, Arsenal are hoping to tie the trio down to new long-term contracts.

All three have been crucial for the Gunners this term as they sit top of the Premier League after six games.

The report claims that City and Real Madrid are among the teams monitoring Saka, though Arsenal are confident he will agree new terms at the Emirates.

Negotiations are well underway to extend Saliba’s deal.

Unlike the other two, Martinelli’s deal includes the option to extend, which Arsenal will be very likely to exercise if it comes to that.

Technical director Edu reportedly believes all three negotiations are ‘on the right track’ and is ‘hopeful’ they will have new deals by January.

It would be interesting to see what sort of fee the Gunners will demand for any of the trio should they decline a contract offer.

All three could play in the World Cup.
