Gilman, Pais Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Jackson Gilman and Leah Pais of Men’s and Women’s Soccer were named PNC Achievers of the Week after helping the Panthers to another great week on the pitch.

Freshman defender Jackson Gilman had a big week for the Panthers as he helped his squad secure a pair of shutouts as they finished the week with a 2-0 record. The freshman also posted five shots across two matches for Pitt. Gilman opened the week with three shots, one on goal, as the Panthers earned a 5-0 home victory over Howard. Gilman helped the Pitt defense hold the Bison to one shot on goal in the clean sheet. On Friday night, Gilman again helped lead the Panthers defensive efforts as Pitt notched a 1-0 road win over North Carolina, their first win in Chapel Hill in program history. The freshman finished off his night with two shots on goal while defensively the squad held UNC to just two shots on goal in the win. The Pitt defense now has a shutout streak of 243 minutes that spans to the first half of the Marshall game (9/2). During the shutout streak, Pitt has allowed just four shots on goal.

Senior forward Leah Pais led the Pitt women’s soccer team (7-1-0) with three goals in two matches last week, helping the Panthers wrap up non-conference play with seven victories in eight tries for the second year in a row. Pais scored in the 26th minute last Thursday at VCU, then led Pitt to a 3-2 Senior Day victory over Liberty by coming off the bench to score two goals in the span of eight minutes. She found the back of the net in both the 30th and 38th minutes to secure her second brace in the last three matches.
