Bolanos Named to USL League One Week 24 Team of the Week

Kickers Earn Comprehensive 4-0 Win over Charlotte; Bolanos Ties League Record

September 12, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1)Richmond Kickers News Release

TAMPA, Fla. – – USL League One announced on Monday that Richmond Kickers’ forward Jonathan Bolanos was named to the league’s team of the week for week 24 following his performance in the Kickers’ comeback 3-1 over South Georgia Tormenta FC that vaulted the Kickers back into first place in USL League One. Bolanos’ team of the week-worthy performance is presented by Legends Soccer Co.

Bolanos earns his seventh total weekly honor of the season. His weekly honors include player of the week honors during weeks 11 and 22 while also earning a player of the month nomination for June.

The third-year pro was the catalyst for the Kickers’ second-half comeback win over Tormenta when he set up Emiliano Terzaghi’s equalizer before scoring the game-winner and the stoppage-time insurance goal.

His performance earned him Keiter Man of the Match honors following the conclusion of the match.

“To be named to the team of the week is always special, but I see my nomination as a reflection of how our team is currently playing,” Bolanos said. “In the game against Tormenta, our ability to respond after a slow first half, showed our team’s resiliency, culture, and pride when it comes to defending our home field.

“As always, having a large crowd is helpful as we feed off of the home crowd energy of The Red Army.”

Bolanos increased his goal contributions for the season to 6 goals and 10 assists – tying the league’s single-season records for most assists in a season. With 1,136 minutes played across 15 appearances and 16 total goal contributions, Bolanos is averaging a goal or an assist every 71 minutes.

“I was very happy to be able to contribute with the two goals and assist,” Bolanos said. “My mentality going into the game was to be dominant in the attack and continue to create chances for the team.

“As a group, the pieces are starting to come together but our best football is yet to come.”

Currently, Bolanos is two goals away from tying the Kickers’ club record for most assists set in a season by Ruben Espinoza in 1996.

The Kickers return to the road to take on defending USL League One champs Union Omaha on Wednesday, Sept. 14th. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. Then the Roos will then travel to Chattanooga to take on the Red Wolves before returning home to take on Central Valley Fuego on September 24th. The September 24th match will also be a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Night. Tickets for the match…
