Barnett Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s senior captain Talani Barnett helped lead the Buckeyes to a pair of shutouts last week and has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Barnett played brilliantly in the two matches last week. She led a defense that limited Dayton to just one shot on goal while No. 18 Texas A&M was only able to put two shots on frame. In the game against Texas A&M, she made two tremendous plays, chasing down an A&M attacker and thwarting her opportunity. That was a big play on one of A&M’s lone dangerous threats in the game.

In total, the Buckeyes have had three shutouts so far this season.

This is the first player of the week honor of Barnett’s career. She is the first Buckeye to be named the Defensive Player of the Week since Izzy Rodriguez earned the distinction on Sept. 25, 2018.

Barnett and the Buckeyes will be back in action with a pair of matches this week. They will head to Brown on Thursday evening before hosting Kent State on Senior Day on Sunday.
