Antony explains celebration as he revels in Old Trafford 'goosebumps' on Man Utd debut

The forward, signed for £83m from Ajax on deadline day, opened the scoring in the 3-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday on his debut for the Red Devils.

His move to the club was a long time coming having made it clear to Ajax that he wanted to follow Erik ten Hag to United early in the transfer window.

With the Dutch side eager to retain him, the 22-year-old went on strike to force a move and eventually got his move.

And got off to quite the start, slotting the ball past Aaron Ramsdale before thumping the club crest with his fist, then clawing at and kissing it in a passionate display to the fans.

Not done yet, Antony turned to a camera and gestured at it with tiger claws, which he later explained to the official Manchester United website.

He explained: “It’s a friends thing. So when I score a goal, my friends know what it is, it’s a tiger. They know and that’s how I celebrate.”

Antony also revealed the feeling of scoring his first goal at Old Trafford.

He added: “To score my first goal and share this moment with the crowd, with a great atmosphere, was brilliant.

“From the moment I stepped on to the pitch, I already had goosebumps because I know how much I wanted to be here and I know how much the crowd wanted this.

“When I saw the ball going in, and the net shaking, I express all my feelings the way I did. Yes, it gave me goosebumps for sure.”

Teammate Diogo Dalot hailed the winger’s performance and believes the fans will enjoy the character he’s already illustrated.

“(Playing with Antony was) very good,” the Portugal right-back said. “He showed that in just two or three days that he could come on and make the difference he made with a beautiful goal, beautiful team goal.

“He is one more player to help, we want to build a very good squad this season and with him we are going have more quality.

“He has the advantage of knowing the way that the manager thinks.

“He’s already adapted to his football side and now he’s adapted to his new team-mates and I think you could see in the minutes that he played that he showed some character, he showed some desire, which I’m sure every fan will love.

“The quality that he has, the mentality that he has, I think he will improve us.”
