Liverpool among clubs keen on Barca teenager; La Liga club ‘confident’ he will sign new deal

Reported Liverpool target Gavi during a match

Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all reportedly hoping to lure Gavi away from Barcelona.

The 18-year-old midfielder has a €100million release clause after it doubled from €50m ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

He has featured in all four of Barcelona’s opening La Liga fixtures this term as the Blaugrana sit second with three wins and a draw.

The Catalan club are sweating over Gavi’s contract situation as he has now entered the final 12 months of his deal at the Nou Camp.

He apparently wants to quadruple his current €1m-a-year salary.

It was reported last month that the teenager was unhappy with the club for pursuing Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.

Catalan outlet Beteve claimed Gavi would not renew his contract if Silva moved to Barcelona.

There is already a lot of competition for places under Xavi, and the signing of Bernardo would have made it very difficult for Gavi to play as often as he’d like.

Miralem Pjanic is still at the club after spending last term on loan with Turkish side Besiktas, while Barca brought in Franck Kessie from AC Milan on a free transfer in the summer.

On top of Pjanic and Kessie, Xavi also has Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets at his disposal.

With Gavi’s future in Catalonia up in the air, a host of top clubs across Europe are hoping to land the young Spain international.

This is according to 90min, who claim that Liverpool, City, United and Chelsea have all held meetings with the player’s representatives in recent weeks.

There is interest from abroad, as well, with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich holding similar discussions.

Barca are ‘confident’ Gavi will pen a new long-term contract ‘very soon’, however.

The La Liga club are back in Champions League action this week when they take on Viktoria Plzen.

Liverpool, on the other hand, face a very tricky test away to Napoli.

They have been handed a potential boost for their opening Champions League fixture, however.

According to Calciomercato, Napoli’s star striker Victor Osimhen is ‘at risk’ of missing the match.

Osimhen played the full 90 minutes of his side’s win against Lazio on Saturday, but has trained by himself this week after feeling uncomfortable following the game in Rome.

Hirving Lozano is also a doubt for the Naples outfit.

The Mexican winger has ‘underwent radiological checks and neurosurgical consultations’ which gave ‘negative results’ after coming off…
