Undefeated State Prepares for Fourth Consecutive Home Match

STARKVILLE – The undefeated Mississippi State soccer program prepares for Sunday’s match against Louisiana Tech (2-2-1). The match will kickoff at 1 p.m. CT on SECN+.

“This is another opportunity to test ourselves versus a good opponent,” head coach James Armstrong said. “We are looking to be sharper and to bring more energy into this game [than our last match].”

Sunday’s meeting will be the fourth overall, with State holding the series lead, 3-0-0. It will be the first meeting between the programs since 2018 where MSU won, 3-0.

Louisiana Tech enters Sunday after falling to No. 12 Ole Miss, 5-0. The Lady Techsters kept it a 1-0 margin until two minutes before the half ended, when the Rebels made it a two-goal advantage. LA Tech would only get off three shots, offensively, with two of those being on goal. MSU, meanwhile, is gearing up for its last of four consecutive home matches. State has yet to lose a game this season, as its unbeaten streak extended to five matches after a scoreless draw against South Alabama. The Dawgs limited the Jags to only two shots which was the fewest for MSU all season.

T, 0-0 vs. South Alabama
The Bulldogs picked up their third consecutive shutout, tying South Alabama, 0-0. The Bulldog defense held the attacking Jags scoreless for the first time all season. State’s backline didn’t allow South Alabama to record a single shot on goal, also a first for the visitors. The shots recorded by the Jags were the fewest of the season for the Bulldogs. It’s now the tenth career shutout for GK Maddy Anderson.

MSU’s backline has not allowed a team to register double-digit shots all season. The highest mark they’ve allowed came in a 2-0 win over Lipscomb where the Bisons recorded nine. Only seven of the opponents’ 28 total shots have been on goal. Four shutouts have been registered by the Bulldog defense with only one goal slipping through.

It’s the newcomers for State who are leading the attacking efforts. All five goals for MSU have been scored by an underclassman (listed in order of first goal scored):

Haley McWhirter | transfer sophomore | 1 goal, 1 assist
Alivia Buxton | freshman | 2 goals
Maggie Wadsworth | freshman | 2 goals, 1 assist
Ally Perry | sophomore | 1 goal, 1 assist
