Huskers Drop Home Match to Portland

Lincoln, Neb. – Despite outshooting Portland, the Nebraska soccer team (2-2-1) fell to the Pilots, 2-0, at Hibner Stadium on Thursday night.
 
NU went on the attack early, outshooting the Pilots in the first half by a 5-2 margin. For the game, the Huskers outshot Portland, 12-6, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Portland goalkeeper Bre Norris kept NU from scoring, as the Pilots improved to 3-0-2 on the season. 
 
In the 19th minute, Portland struck first when Sophia Mattice scored off a free kick. The Pilots recorded their second goal in the 54th minute when Kayla Adams found the back of the net. 
 
Junior Goalkeeper Sami Hauk was one of five Huskers to play the full 90 minutes. She earned two saves to increase her career total to 57. 
 
Sophomore Sarah Weber, who played the entire match, led the Husker offense with five shots. Eleanor Dale, Gwen Lane and Jordan Zade registered a shot apiece. 
 
The Huskers return to action on Sunday when they travel to St. Louis. The match, set for 1 p.m. (CT), will stream on ESPN+.
