Guardiola: Haaland Wants Titles Not Records After Back-to-Back Hat-Tricks

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has lauded Erling Haaland after scoring his second hat-trick in five Premier League games in Wednesday’s 6-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund in the off-season and has already netted nine league goals for the English champions.

The 21-year-old Norwegian netted a hat-trick on the weekend against Crystal Palace and backed that up with another treble in midweek.

Haaland’s remarkable start to life in the Premier League has people scrambling for the record books but Guardiola said that wasnt on his mind.

“I think what he wants is to win the titles,” Guardiola said. “This is my feeling of what he wants.

“If the records and goals help that then good.

“Records and goals dont win titles, I think he wants to be part of that.

“When we bought Erling, everybody spoke about what he had done in the past.

“What we want to do is to help him continue what he has done in Norway, Austria and Germany. Hopefully he can continue to enjoy the game.

“I dont want him to get niggles so we do substitutions otherwise he would score more goals, I am sure.”

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Fabio Carvalho lashed in a stoppage-time winner for Liverpool to edge past Newcastle United 2-1.

Arsenal continued their perfect start to the season with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

West Ham United and Tottenham drew 1-1, while Wolverhampton were left frustrated after a goalless draw at Bournemouth who sacked Scott Parker earlier in the week.
