Arsenal reignite January interest in Brazilian midfielder; Vieira talks down Zaha exit

Reported Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha during a match

Arsenal are hoping to sign a midfielder and winger before the summer transfer window closes, with a move for Palmeiras’ Danilo being reported.

The Gunners were linked with the Brazilian midfielder in January but the player stayed at Palmeiras.

Why have Chelsea and Arsenal left it so late to move for the brilliant Wilfried Zaha?

They did not sign anyone during the winter window despite the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the injury record of Thomas Partey.

Many fans believe the club’s lack of transfer activity in the January market is the reason they fell short of fourth place in the Premier League last season.

Despite an overall positive summer which has seen the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, Arsenal supporters are once again anxious the squad will not be big enough to reach their goals this term.

Funnily enough, Partey is injured again and to make matters worse, Mohamed Elneny has a hamstring issue that will rule him out for several weeks.

Mikel Arteta is short in midfield, with Sambi Lokonga expected to play against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

It is unclear how much a deal to sign the player would cost, but Edu and co will need to work quickly to ensure he is signed before the window slams shut.

A report on Tuesday claimed Arsenal have made a £20m bid to sign Danilo.

Following the temporary departure of club-record signing Nicolas Pepe, the Gunners have been tipped to bring in a new winger to help ease the burden off Bukayo Saka.

Saka played all 38 league matches in 2021/22 and with the addition of Europa League football this campaign, a replacement for Pepe seems pretty necessary.

Arteta also has Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Reiss Nelson at his disposal, though none hold a candle to the England winger on the right flank.

Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk, Wolves’ Pedro Neto and PSV’s Cody Gakpo have all been linked with a move to the Emirates over the last week or so.

Zaha seems to be linked with a move away from Palace every single transfer window, with Chelsea also reportedly keen.

However, Eagles boss and…
